Like many large cities around the world, the air pollution in Cairo reaches biblical proportions. It is hard to imagine a beneficial aspect of this, but if one exists, it may be the dramatic orange, yellow and red sunsets created as the sun sinks through the haze.
I was lucky enough to be atop the minaret of the Al_Ghouri Mosque near Khan Khalili when the sun slid behind the Cairo TV and radio tower as it set. But later I got in trouble with mosque caretaker for staying so late. The risks we suffer for art. (Price Schedule F)
